Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (UAIC) is not only the oldest Higher Education Institution (HEI) but also the first modern Romanian university and it has kept this privileged position not only for historical reasons. Nowadays, it ranks among the first in the country in terms of research, education and institutional transparency.

The university, which first opened its doors to only 70 students back in 1860, currently has more than 38.000 students, 24 research centres, 15 faculties and almost 200 study programmes at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level. Its educational offers are among the most diversified, including specializations taught in English, jointly achieved in collaboration with partner universities from abroad, as well as courses created in cooperation with the business sector.

Due to its academics’ expertise, its modern infrastructure and its 500 currently running research projects, the university has been carrying on a tradition of excellence and innovation in research which has been confirmed on numerous occasions. Besides the international cooperation in research projects, UAIC has concluded more than 260 agreements with prestigious universities from all over the world.
